Our Role in Students' Career Development

Your success after graduation will depend on how well you have prepared yourself in the classroom and at the jobs you've held prior to receiving your degree, your specific skills, your use of effective job search techniques, the way you present yourself to prospective organizations, and the level of demand for your particular credentials in the locale of your job search. We take our responsibility to assist University of Indianapolis students and alumni very seriously. We cannot do the challenging work of career exploration and decision-making or job seeking for you, but we can provide information, advice, tools, networking opportunities and leads. We are eager to be your guides, and partners in pursuit of your career aspirations and goals.

The Career Services staff will help you:

  • Explore career options and identify academic programs and specialties (including advanced study possibilities) that support your career goals(s) and/or sense of calling.
  • Identify practical learning opportunities, especially student employment and internships that offer the chance to develop workplace skills and gain exposure to industries and fields of interest.
  • Prepare to be an effective job seeker–to know how to network and interview well, and to compete for pre-professional and professional positions.
  • Connect with prospective employers (through office referral services, campus recruiting and job fairs, etc.), or transition to graduate/professional school, full-time community service, or other post-degree alternatives.
