Jobs, Internships and JobHoundConnect
Your gateway to jobs on and off campus, internships, career employment and career-building experiences
JobHoundConnect (JHC) is a password-protected data management and referral system developed for University of Indianapolis students and alumni. JHC serves as one key resource for identifying and connecting with potential employers. Before you log on, there are a few things we want to tell you:
- Career Services receives hundreds of employment-related notices each month. The Career Services Office practices due diligence to insure the legitimacy of the employers that post positions on the JobHoundConnect. However, it is impossible for us to thoroughly investigate any and every given employment opportunity announced. It is the candidate’s responsibility to take the necessary precautions when interviewing or accepting positions, and he/she is responsible for researching the organization.
- Upper-level students in search of internships and degree-oriented career positions must provide Career Services with an up-to-date, winning resume–one that distinguishes you as a serious job seeker and candidate. We recommend a simple one-page Word document verses a template that tends to make a resume longer than it needs to be, as well as restrict you to a certain format. Elsewhere on this site (Job Search Advice & Resources), in JHC, and certainly in the career center, you can find all the help you need to create a really good resume. Also, students wishing to be referred for internships should attend an internship orientation session before submitting a resume to JHC.
- Students seeking a campus job probably recognize what a great opportunity this can be to develop workplace skills and gain valuable pre-professional experience. You'll want to make the most of it. Before contacting a campus supervisor, though, we suggest you know a little something about the targeted office or department (university website, catalog, student handbook, etc.). Also, have a typewritten summary or resume of your qualifications to give him/her (which you may also post on JHC). Wear casual but clean and neat clothing (no shorts) and make a nice appearance. Put on your best manners (get the supervisor's name and title, Mr., Ms., Dr., and use it). Finally, remember that there are forms to complete before starting a campus job (available online in JHC or in the Accounting Office).
- Students seeking a job off campus can find many part-time, seasonal, and summer opportunities on JHC. While it is not required to have your resume on the system, it certainly is a good idea. Also, be sure to check out the Events & Activities calendar on this site and announcements on JHC of student employment fairs and visiting organizations in search of student employees.
